How to learn a language without going back to school.

NEW ITINERARIES CULTURAL ASSOCIATION is an Association of over twenty qualified teachers living in Tuscany who offer Italian Language and Culture Homestays to foreign students wishing to gain a better academic and working knowledge of the language.

As a guest, you will live in the home as one of the family and have daily tuition from one of the hosts who is a qualified and experienced teacher.

Since 1971, university students, opera singers, professionals and senior citizens participate in our homestay programs, using our individually-planned, tutor-to-student method.

WHAT WE TEACH

Italian grammar, with practical, everyday conversation based on the student’s personal interests and goals. Tutor and guest student plan lessons on basic, intermediate or advanced Italian linked to the history of art, music, history, commerce, literature and cooking.

WHERE THE TEACHING HOST FAMILIES LIVE

Accommodation is in comfortable homes of excellent quality, in or near Florence and the Chianti Wine Area.

WHY SHOULD I STUDY ITALIAN?

Enjoy the advantage of natural assimilation of the Italian language. Italian is a melodious and charming language. Enchanting to listen to, and a delight to speak.

Tastes differ widely, of course, but Italian is considered by many to be one of the world’s most beautiful languages.

A few excellent reasons are that Italy is a world leader in manufacturing, import-export activities, in an extensive range of fashion articles, in interior and furniture design, automobiles and motor cycles, and other commercial activities.

Italian is indispensable for students of art, music, law, European history and archaeology.

The artistic and literary heritage of Italy is an exaltation of the Genius Loci.

Tuscany in partucular has its great poets - Dante, Boccaccio and Petrarch, its mighty master, Leonardo da Vinci, who created a new universe here on earth. It gave the world, among many others, the ageless, muscular art and brawny sculpture of Michelangelo to which we can add such great geniuses as Galileo, Macchiavelli, Giotto, Botticelli, Brunelleschi….

Italian explorers include Christopher Columbus, Giovanni Caboto (John Cabot), Giovanno da Verrazzano, and Amerigo Vespucci – the man who gave his name to America.

The world’s greatest art treasures are in Italy. Indeed, according to UNESCO over 60 percent are in located in Italy.

Our Homestays are available all year round. Minimum homestay one week.

ITALIAN LANGUAGE and CULTURE HOMESTAY TUITION

The qualified and experienced tutors give practical, essential tuition taking into account personal interests and aspirations.

TUITION PROGRAM

Daily one-to-one individually-planned tuition is given for 15 or 20 hours weekly, from Monday to Friday. The guest student’s present level of Italian, past study experience, and all personal and specific interests for studying Italian will be evaluated by the teacher. The Cultural Excursions and Walks program and the Cooking Activity program are given for 20 hours weekly.

STUDY PLANS

We recommend that you prepare, specify and discuss personal study interests with

the teacher before lessons begin. These may include concentrating on grammar and

conversation, or on particular tuition which can be linked to literature, history, art,

music, or business Italian.

Tuition will be given during the morning or in the afternoon, at a time suitable to both.

The guest student should make a constant effort to speak Italian all day and every day.

FORGET YOUR OWN LANGUAGE FOR A WHILE

Italian language courses are in the comfort of your teacher’s home. In the classroom and after attending school, students inevitably meet other students from their own country and so speak in their own language to each other. In a host family this cannot happen.

The guest student is compelled to think and speak Italian in every day-by-day situation.

This round-the-clock exercise is the very heart of constant and permanent learning.

A language which is assimilated and intensely lived and used in this practical manner

makes “Living and Learning with Your Teacher” the most effective and natural way of securing a good knowledge of the Italian language and culture.

HOMESTAY TUITION AND TRADITIONAL LANGUAGE SCHOOL TEACHING

The most frequent objections raised against learning a foreign language in a traditional language school are:

- I always meet students from my own country and we inevitably speak our own language during our free time.

- Too many students. The classroom is overcrowded.

- I am able to speak the language only for a few minutes every hour (this is the

disadvantage of group learning).

- We all have different learning speeds and some of my classmates just lag behind.

- We all have miscellaneous study plans and personal interests for studying Italian and above all at my level students have a widely different basic knowledge and experience of the language.

THE SUCCESSFUL STUDENT

Before beginning an Italian Language and Culture Homestay, you are strongly advised to:

- Prepare to adjust yourself to your new Italian studies and to the length of time you will be away from home.

- Prepare to live with, and accept, those cultural differences which may exist between

your own country and Italy.

- Prepare to accept, and learn from, the local daily way of life, however different from

your own.

- Prepare to live in harmony with your family and make a constant and daily effort to

study and speak the language.

- Prepare a study plan, according to your personal interests, sufficient to cover the

entire homestay period. This plan will be discussed with your teacher before tuition

begins.

In Singapore, many parents and students want only committed tutors from tuition agencies. However, as much as they would like to recommend committed tutors , they cannot guarantee that all their tutors will be 100% committed due to various difficulties and reasons. From our past experience, below are some of the factors that may affect the suitability and commitment of the tutors :

Location

If a tutor’s student lives near his house, the tutor may settle for a lower tuition fee and may be more committed since he is able to cut down on travelling time and thus save on transportation fees.

It is therefore beneficial for a parent to provide a tuition agency with his or her postal code and/or detailed address, so that the tuition agency can find tutors as near to the parent’s residence as possible.

Salary

A tutor’s salary may not be the most important of all, but it is significant.

Tutors who take up a low-paying assignment may not commit for a long period. A tuition rate that is $10-15 less than the market rate may be acceptable to a tutor. However, if a parent pays about $50 less than the market rate, the tutor will most likely not commit for long. He or she may even feel unmotivated towards teaching as well.

It is well known that teaching is a respected profession; and MOE teachers nowadays are well paid by the ministry. So our advice to parents is that: give the tutors out there the rewards they deserve. The popular saying “Good stuff comes at a price” applies in this case as well.

Difficult Students

Usually, tutors want to commit their time to teach students who are keen to learn and improve. Moreover, tutors may not be able to help students who don’t wish to help themselves. It takes two hands to clap. So before a parent requests for a change of tutor, he or she should find out whether his child is keen to learn from the child’s tutor in the first place. In certain cases, it may not be the tutor’s fault at all when there is no academic improvement.

So, when a parent request for a tutor from a tuition agency, letting the agency know the character of the child may help the agency in finding the right tutor.

Marketing is all about credibility, the more your customer believes in your advertising the more likely he is to purchase your service or product.

A great way to increase the credibility of your marketing is to let your satisfied customers sell your service or product for you. Case studies are a wonderful way to do this.

Case studies can be used as stand alone advertising or they can be embedded into longer manuscripts to increase their lead generating power.

Stand alone uses are as short articles and press releases. You can indicate in the text that a longer version, with more detail, is on your website and generate additional traffic.

Where case studies really display their benefits is when they are used to enhance marketing pieces like white papers, booklets, CDROMs, and websites.

You’ve created a great white paper defining your customer’s problem and educating them on how to solve it, then you start to tell them how your product meets their need better then anybody else’s product. Sounds like the perfect white paper, doesn’t it?

But is it? Wouldn’t it be better to show them instead of just telling them? Showing increases “buy in” from your readers. Case studies do just that. They show your customer how others used your product to solve their problems. They make your product claims believable.

Nothing your copywriter puts on paper is as powerful as the honest expression of a satisfied customer.

So how do you create a case study? First you need to talk to your customers and find out what they liked about your product. Interview them and get plenty quotes.

Don’t forget to get a signed release so you can use their comments in your case study. This is important. To get the maximum benefit you need to give full attribution in your case study.

For example, R. P. in Texas doesn’t cut it. Rick Parrott, Parrott Writing Services, San Antonio, Texas is much better because it puts a face behind the words. People can identify with Rick Parrott, who can identify with R. P. in Texas?

The structure of a case study is really simple and straight forward.

Case Study Structure

Step One: Tell your readers about your customer. Make them see her as a real person.

Step Two: Define the problem in terms that your reader can understand.

Step Three: Show the process your customer went through as she tried to find a solution. Make your reader identity with your customer. If your reader says, “Hey that’s happening to me!” you’re dead on target!

Finish step three with your customer selecting your product.

Step Four: In this step you will need to show your reader the process required to implement the solution selected by your customer.

This step is also a good place to discuss the results and benefits your customer received because she selected your product.

Step Five: Finally, have your customer tell how well your product solved her problem and if she would recommend it to others.

Most case studies seem to run between 600 and 1500 words. You want to use enough space to get the message across that your product does what you claim it does.

Let the document into which you embed the case study supply most of the details, use just enough in your case study to help the reader identify with the problem and solution.

One final thing, I find keeping the tone of your case study conversational is better. Who wants to read long boring text? Use your customers own words when ever possible.

Find Chinese medicine studies in the United States and Canada. Chinese medicine studies are quickly growing in the West as more and more students are seeking this complementary education in lieu of conventional schools and colleges.

Chinese medicine studies encompass a wide variety of in-depth courses including instruction in acupuncture, acupressure, Asian bodywork, Chinese herbal medicine, meridian therapy, moxibustion (cupping), Qi gong, Shiatsu, Tai Chi, and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

In many cases, Chinese medicine studies typically range from 3 to 5 years, depending on curriculum and individual oriental medicine school. In some instances, students engaged in Chinese medicine studies such as Tuina (Chinese medical massage) or Asian bodywork, will find that these classes are more brief in nature; and can be completed in as little as 300-600 hours, often resulting in a diploma or certificate.

Other, more course-intensive Chinese medicine studies, such as acupuncture or doctor of Oriental medicine programs will require quite a bit of dedication on the student’s part. Chinese medicine studies involving these master’s programs will not only include practical training in needling techniques, but will also consist of in-depth education in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pathology, biochemistry, botanical medicine, herbology, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and philosophies, thereof. Additionally, these Chinese medicine studies integrate internship programs to better equip prospective practitioners with the necessary skills and knowledge to administer this ancient healing art. Students successfully graduating from these Chinese medicine studies can earn their masters or doctorate degrees. Word to the wise, most states require certification and/or licensure to practice in these fields.

Clinical Chinese medicine studies frequently provide practical training in acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine treatments, and TCM diagnosis. This educational portion is critical to students as they will learn how to proficiently master knowledge and skills to practice successfully.

Because Chinese medicine is gaining lead way in mainstream medicine, prospective candidates interested in this personally and professionally rewarding career will find that there are a growing number of Chinese medicine studies available not only in Oriental medicine schools, but in traditional colleges and universities as well.

If you (or someone you know) are interested in finding Chinese medicine studies, let education within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, cosmetology, acupuncture, oriental medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! Explore career school programs near you.

Okay, so you are at the office after a night of tossing and turning. Your concentration level is not what it is normally. You think about it and realize that it was the lousy sleep you had the night before. You my friend, like millions of other people around the world, are suffering from Somnipathy or a sleep disorder. There literally have been hundreds, maybe thousands of sleep disorder studies conducted. With all the people who suffer from these disorders, its no wonder that sleep disorder studies are a popular branch of health care. These studies are attempting to make your nights sleep better and more beneficial to you. Sleep disorder studies have found many possible causes for nsomnia or sleep disorders. Most sleep disorders stem from a pshychological condition or incident.

Types of Sleep Disorders

There are several disorders that do not affect your ability to get to sleep but instead happen during sleep. Bruxism is just such an example. This is a condition where the person grinds his teeth involuntarily while they sleep. According to sleep disorder studies, this affects over 20 million people in the USA. Another condition that has been discovered by sleep disorder studies is that of the delayed sleep phase syndrome, a condition that makes it hard to fall asleep and also to wake up in the morning. Typically the person can’t sleep to midnight or later and can’t wake themselves up in the morning. It is just the timiing that is affected not the actual sleep, other than the fact that there

isn’t enough of it. Another condition that occurs is Hypopnea Syndrome. The person with this condition falls asleep normally but suffers from shallow breathing, thereby limiting the amount of oxygen intake. Thanks to sleep disorder studies, the medical profession have much better ways of treating the conditions.

There are other sleep disorders that have been studied and and researched thanks to sleep disorder studies. Narcolepsy is a condition wherein the person falls asleep involuntarily without any knowledge of doing so and sleeps irregularly at night. Restless leg syndrome is a condition that comes on during sleep. It involves periodic limb movement. These movements are involuntary and indicate that the person is not sleeping as effectively as they could be. REM behavior disorder while sleeping will manifest itself in involuntary muscle release which cause anywhere from random twitches to organized usage of the limbs. According to sleep disorder studies, this movement can be quite violent, to the point where the person injures himself or the person that is sleeping with them. There are lots of sleep related conditions such as snoring, sleep apnea and sleepwalking that have been much better understood because of the sleep disorder studies.

Three treatments have come as a result of the sleep disorder studies. They are psychotherapeutic, medication and somatic. These three types of treatments will help with many causes of sleep disorders, be they stress induced, pain related, psychological trauma, anxiety or something as common as a noisy sleep environment. Sudden changes in lifestyle may also contribute to sleep disorders.

Lots of times, the doctor will prescribe medications for sleep disorders. For most of the time, these measures are only temporary. Stop the medication and the problem reoccurs. Sleep disorder studies have found that psychotherapeutic treatments are much more effective. These treatments go right to the root of the problem usually buried deep in the psyche of the patient. With medication, the problem may just be masked, Kind of like turning up the radio to drowned out the loud exhaust.

Sleep disorders and insomnia problems provide a vast area of research. The sleep disorder studies have made healthy inroads to sleep improvement but they have to delve even deeper into the problems. One of the best treatments seems to be a professional psychotherapist in combination with self help treatments.

Over the years, the patterns of language teaching have undergone a drastic change. Language study has become imperative in the wake of globalization and amazingly vanishing geographical barriers. Students all across the globe are attending language schools and mugging the language of other nation by heart. Language study is now not merely measured on conventional theoretical yardsticks. Many language schools have stepped up with more comprehensive and practical language study curriculums stimulating not only brains but bodies too. Some of the latest additions to the course include extracurricular arts like pottery, knitting, cloth weaving, dance, cooking etc.

Learning a language is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity you can’t afford to miss upon. But partial knowledge and lack of resources may land you in a deep trench of confusion resulting in a major slip-up. The major challenge that confronts a student in language study is to choose amid the seemingly attractive schools which appear equally promising. Well, here you own prudence and keen sight can come to the aid. Don’t get lured by the striking location or misguiding opinions of other. Follow your muse and inner instinct. You can take advice but mind not to follow others blindly. Do some self analysis and research before finally choosing a school for language study.

Students have their own personal reasons to undergo language study. Some students study language as a career opportunity, for some it’s a hobby. Others may learn it for conversing with the host family, so on and so forth…

Language study not only eliminates geographical differences but also draw together people from the different walks of life. In a language study school a student can interact with people younger or even older to him/her. Majority of students are aged 18-30 yrs.

It is also advisable to consider the fee structure, what all is it inclusive of? Do a comparative analysis between a few language schools. Log onto their websites, check out the course contents, fee periodicity i.e. weekly, monthly or half yearly. You can further personally contact the school by calling or sending an email on the particulars given on website. After observing the abovementioned tips, you can finally arrange for the accommodation, you can either rent a flat or stay with a host family. The choice depends upon your comfort and most importantly budget.

Thus, language study is no more a taboo subject. Anyone can study the language of any country he/she desires to. language study not only brings people but even nations closer to each other.
